Bottega del Vino
One of Italian best stocked cellar with more than 1500 labels and 40,000 bottles including rarities and valuable vintages. The interior with painted walls and stacks of wine bottles forming a theatrical setting for hearty local dishes. Must try: Risotto all'Amarone.
Locanda Castelvecchio
Close to the old middle age castle of Verona, this cozy restaurant offers some of Verona best traditional dishes such as tortellini and boiled and roasted meats to go with pearà, a thick and tasty sauce full of pepper typical of Verona.
ON A BUDGET
Osteria al Duomo
Popular traditional dishes here include horse meat stew (pastissada) with maize porridge (polenta) and thick spaghetti (bigoli) with donkey sauce. The interior of this nice little osteria frequented by locals include wooden barrels and scruffy tables often full.
Osteria Sottoriva
Huddled under the portico of the ancient via Sottoriva, this historical and charcterful osteria is run by young and energetic staff who serve dishes of tripe, home made lasagne and memorable horse meatballs to go together with genuine local wines.
